In shipping, especially air cargo, both volumetric weight and gross weight are used to calculate shipping charges — and carriers will charge based on whichever is higher.

Gross weight (actual weight)
This is the actual physical weight of the shipment, including the packaging. It’s what you would see if you put the package on a weighing scale.

Example:
If a box weighs 20 kilograms on the scale, the gross weight is 20 kg.

Volumetric weight (dimensional weight)
This is a calculated weight based on the size (dimensions) of the package. It represents how much space the package takes up in the aircraft or vehicle.

Formula for air freight:
Volumetric weight in kilograms = (Length × Width × Height in centimeters) ÷ 6000

Formula for couriers (like DHL, Fedex, UPS):
Volumetric weight in kilograms = (Length × Width × Height in centimeters) ÷ 5000

Example:
If a package measures 100 cm × 50 cm × 30 cm,
Volumetric weight for air freight = (100 × 50 × 30) = 150000 ÷ 6000 = 25 kg

Volumetric weight for couriers = (100 × 50 × 30) = 150000 ÷ 5000 = 30 kg

A Certificate of Origin or COO is a leading trade document that evidences the country of origin, which determines that an end product had its origin, was either manufactured or obtained. Issued by a competent body, which is either the chamber of commerce or the government agency, the COO says it all about the origin of goods, which is an extremely important factor in customs clearance, tariff determination, and in determining whether compliance with trade agreements has been achieved.

An HS Code (Harmonized System Code) is a standardized number used worldwide to classify goods for international trade.
It helps customs authorities identify the product; apply the correct taxes, duties, and restrictions.
Some of the HS code required special approval from different ministries like TRA, DM, Media Council, MOH, FANR etc.

For example:

HS Code 0101.21 = Horses, for racing

HS Code 8471.30 = Laptops and portable computers

HS Code 9801.00 = Personal Effects & Household Items Used
